A Road Trip to Remember

So because I’ve been AWOL for a while now, I guess I should fill you in on something super-dopper exciting that is happening in a few weeks on the school holidays……..we a taking an epic road trip!

It might not sound that earth-shattering, but lets delve a little deeper into it. Two weeks, in a Brtiz Camper #notsponsored #wishitwas , the two kids and I as well as two of my sister-in-laws heading all the way from our home in Melbourne all the way up to Alice Springs. With lots of sightseeing along the way, the open road will be ours. How does that all sound? Needless to say Hubby is more than jealous about the whole ‘us road tripping’ while he be ‘working hard to make a living’ ha!

The count down has begun and in the next week or so, I’ll be hitting the shops to grab some extra warm things for the freezing nights we will experience, as well as things to keep the kids occupied during the long driving spurts, including a notebook for Princess to record our adventures.

I’ll pick up the van on the last day of term on my day off, come home and load her up with our clothes and supermarket shopping. Then it will be a matter of waiting for school to finish and Hubby to come home from work so we can say goodbye.

The Aunties and kids are excited to visit Uluru for the first time and I’m excited to head back to Kings Canyon. At Uluru we are planning on doing one of the morning guided tours to get a feel for the importance of the place and then in the afternoon we are looking at doing a family bike ride around the base. Apart from that, we have no set plans, we shall do what we want, when we want and stay wherever takes our fancy too. Our only constraint will be time!!

I’m looking forward to being inspired by the places we visit to take loads of photos and find my mojo again. I haven’t decided yet if I’ll blog our journey along the way, wait ’til we get back and do a highlight reel, or just leave it in the memory bank. What do you think? Do you have any places we should add to our list to see? Do you have any handy tips for us?

  1. Wow, it sounds like a fantastic road trip!! Hubby and I have been reminiscing of the road trip we went on 6 months ago, and can’t wait to take our girls away again. I’d love to go to the red centre and see Uluru at sunset (with a glass of wine!) Enjoy it! 🙂

  2. We did a big road trip last year in July. Loved it. My tip for long trips (we do lots of them out here) is audiobooks. Totally recommend the rangers apprentice for school aged kids, and roald dahl for even younger ones. They are also enjoyable for adults!

    • Yes!! Audiobooks at the ready for sure Jo! The beauty of hiring the van is that the kids will be sitting at the table so can be ‘doing’ things too games, diary entries, coloring in etc. Excitement is building!

  3. That sounds like such an awesome road trip! I hope you’ll be posting about it, because I’m pretty cut that I’ve never gone to the NT… I’m a terrible Aussie traveller.

  4. Sounds like an awesome trip! It sure gets super cold at night so bring extra layers. Uluru is breathtaking. We have a great book your kids might like too – To the Top End by Roland Harvey. My kids love it!!

    • Yes we have packed extra bedding for the cold nights! I camped for five weeks in July when I worked in a remote community all those years ago, and it was indeed fresh! Yes, I forgot that book, much rat around the shelves and see if I can find it!

    • Thanks Paula! Yep, I’ve scheduled posts for when I am gone so I can enjoy the moment with no pressure, if I want to write I will but if not, that’s fine too!

Here at no.2 we love hearing from you & appreciate your comments!
